ANELE

What ANELE means on Twitch — the blank stare for indifference, confusion, or moving on.

What does ANELE mean?

ANELE is a blank, slightly lost face. Chat posts it when they do not know what they just watched, do not care, or have already moved on. It is not a laugh and not quite a WutFace. The eyes are open. The brain is not in the room.

Origin

It is one of the old Justin.tv-era photo globals: a tight crop of a real face, added to the default set rather than drawn for Twitch. The code stuck. People still use the word ANELE as 'anyway' energy, a shrug you can see.

FAQ

What does ANELE mean in chat?

Indifference or a blank stare. Roughly 'I don't know' or 'anyway.'

Is ANELE a BTTV emote?

No. It is an official Twitch global, so it renders with no extension.

ANELE vs WutFace?

WutFace is surprise. ANELE is the lights-are-on-but-nobody-is-home look.
