What does KomodoHype mean?

KomodoHype is hype with teeth. Chat posts the open-mouthed Komodo dragon for excitement, clutch plays, and "let's go" energy — the same job PogChamp used to own. The stretched jaw even looks a bit like the old Pog face, which is why it became the meme replacement.

It can be sincere or sarcastic. A real banger gets KomodoHype. A nothing-burger that chat wants to overrate also gets KomodoHype. If the room still types PogChamp, you may see this same lizard render, depending on how Twitch mapped the name after 2021.

Origin

The photo is a stock Komodo dragon with its mouth wide open, circulating online since about 2008. In April 2015 Twitch added it as OSkomodo for Old Spice's "Twitch Plays Old Spice" event, alongside OSfrog and OSsloth. In December 2017 it was renamed KomodoHype and settled in as a generic hype global.

In January 2021 Twitch removed the original PogChamp. A lot of chat moved to KomodoHype (and third-party PogU-style faces) while Twitch rotated replacement Pog art. For a stretch, KomodoHype was the hype emote people could agree on.
