Shush

What does Shush mean?

Shush is a finger on the lips. Chat posts it for spoilers, for a quiet moment, for a mod who would like the pasta to stop, or for a jump scare that has not happened yet. It is a useful emote because it is an instruction. ImTyping says wait, a message is coming. Shush says stop, a message should not.

Origin

Photo global, the gesture cropped tight so it survives at small size. There is no second meaning. If you post it you are asking for quiet or marking a spoiler. People who post it and then immediately spoil the thing have used the emote correctly and the room incorrectly.

When to use Shush

• Spoilers and 'don't say it'
• A quiet section, an ASMR bit, or a scare that is still loading
• Asking chat to hold a pasta
• Before a reveal, not after
